Council on Aging for McIntosh Trail

About Us

The Council on Aging for McIntosh Trail, Inc.'s  primary purpose is to provide leisure time/recreational activities, nutrition programs, and other supplemental services to senior adults.  However, these services are not the same as services
provided in a personal care home, nursing home, or adult day care facility.

The Council on Aging for McIntosh Trail, Inc.  is a private nonprofit agency that is neither licensed nor staffed to provide personal care to any senior citizen at any time. In an attempt to include all seniors desiring to participate in our programs, exceptions will be made on a case by case basis.  This may require, but is not limited to, the senior adult being accompanied by a qualified caregiver.   The caregiver shall remain with their client at all times while they are participating in all programs provided by this agency.  This agency assumes no responsibility or liabilities to any client receiving personal care services by their caretaker while participating in programs provided by this agency.

The institutions/caretakers bringing their client(s) shall assume responsibility for the full cost of all meals provided by this agency.   Having as our mission the advocacy and provision of quality services to seniors, this agency will make every attempt to serve senior citizens as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director of the Council on Aging for McIntosh Trail, Inc.

The Council on Aging for McIntosh Trail, Inc. is a private non-profit organization and was incorporated in 1979 for the purposes of providing services to persons age 60 and over and/or disabled in the McIntosh Trail service area which includes the Counties of Butts, Lamar, Pike,  Spalding  and, the surrounding cities which includes Jackson, Barnesville, Zebulon, and Griffin.
The services are now designed to help senior citizens and/or disabled individuals to help maintain and strengthen the ability of these individuals to care for themselves and remain independent and at home as long as possible and to prevent long-term care facility placement.
The agency operates under the auspices of the Southern Crescent Area Agency on Aging and receives funding from federal, state, and local governments, United Way, religious and civic groups, private foundations, and various other sources.

The scope of services include congregate meals served in local senior centers, home-delivered meals to homebound senior adults and disabled persons, leisure-time recreational activities, telephone reassurance, senior employment / training program, information and referral, and nutrition education and counseling. The target market are seniors and/or disabled persons.

The core service is the nutrition program which serves seniors and/or disabled individuals who are nutritionally at risk.  Each meal served to congregate and home-delivered meal customers meets one-third of the Required Daily Allowance (RDA) of dietary guidelines which are developed and overseen by Licensed and Registered Dietitians. Congregate meals are served in the senior centers of the McIntosh Trail Area; home-delivered meals are
transported to homebound clients by agency personnel or volunteers.
